In the year 19 BC a virgin located a source of pure water just outside the city of Rome. The Roman technicians marked this spot as the terminal point of the Aqua Virgo that led its waters to the Baths of Agrippa. Known two thousand years later as the Trevi Fountain, it is the largest baroque fountain in the extensive city of Rome today. Whilst the Trevi Fountain commands the scene, the building that houses the Hotel Fontana guards its own share of historical secrets. Dating back to the XIII century, the building originally housed a monastery which was converted to accommodate guests during the late 1700’s. It has been regularly refurbished throughout the ensuing centuries and finally in 1976 was transformed into the Hotel Fontana that awaits you today. Carefully preserving the original character of the monastery, the modern hotel now also features the convenience and amenities today’s travelers have come to expect. The Rooftop Lounge and the breakfast room of the hotel offer absolutely unique views of the historic Trevi Fountain.
